A dental impression tray (10, 10a) includes at least one array of solid state light emitters (32, 32a) for curing photocurable impression material received in a channel (14) of the tray (10, 10a). The tray (10, 10a) includes a body (12, 12a) presenting the channel (14), and a housing (22, 22a) that is detachably connected to the body (12, 12a). The tray (10, 10a) preferably includes a battery (36, 36a) that extends along a buccolabial side (16) of the tray body (12, 12a) and as a result is received in the patient's oral cavity when an impression is taken.
