A vacuum or heat formed cushion (10) having upstanding cells (12) of thin (15- 40 mil) wall thickness and having rectangular body sections with upwardly inclined (10·-40·) triangular top panels. The cushions (10) can be attached together to form a mattress or used individually as a wheelchair or other chair or back cushion. The cells (12) of the cushion can all be interconnected or the cushion can be divided in two or more independently inflated compartments. A special wheelchair cushion has cells of different shapes, sizes and heights to promote positioning of a user on a wheelchair. The cushion (10) has openings through the base to allow it to be placed on a manifold so that body fluids can drain away from the patient and conditioned air can be supplied to the patient. The top surfaces of the cells (12) are textured to prevent sealing off the pores of the user's skin.

Ces coussins (10) peuvent se fixer les uns aux autres afin de constituer un matelas, ou s'utiliser individuellement en tant que coussin de fauteuil roulant, d'un autre type de chaise ou de dossier. Les cellules (12) du coussin peuvent être toutes reliées les unes aux autres ou le coussin peut être divisé en deux compartiments ou plus gonflés de façon indépendante. Un coussin spécial de fauteuil roulant possède des cellules de différentes formes, dimensions et hauteurs, afin de rendre la position de l'utilisateur d'un fauteuil roulant plus confortable. Ce coussin (10) comporte des ouvertures à travers la base, de manière à pouvoir le placer sur un collecteur permettant de drainer les liquides biologiques du patient et d'alimenter ce dernier en air conditionné. La texture des surfaces supérieures des cellules (12) est conçue pour empêcher l'obturation des pores de la peau de l'utilisateur.
