A method and device for welding pipe (10) onto a piping network (12) at a joint (14) comprising introducing an inert purging gas under pressure at a substantially constant flow rate at one end of the pipe (10) away from the weld joint (14), providing a flow restriction at the end of the piping network (12) away from the weld joint (14), diverting a minor portion of the inert purging gas flowing through the piping network (12) into and through a constant back pressure maintaining device (38) for maintaining a substantially constant back pressure on the inert purging gas in the piping network (12) during the welding, whereby any changes in back pressure occurring in the piping network (12) cause a greater or lesser amount of the inert purging gas to flow through the constant back pressure maintaining device (38), thereby enabling producing of precise and highly reproducible welds with an orbital welder.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un dispositif de soudage de tube (10) sur un réseau de canalisations (12) au niveau d'un raccord (14), lequel procédé consiste à introduire un gaz de purge inerte sous pression à un débit sensiblement constant au niveau d'une extrémité du tube (10) à l'opposé du joint de soudage (14), à former un étranglement de l'écoulement à l'extrémité du réseau de canalisations (12) à l'opposé du joint de soudage (14), à dévier une petite partie du gaz de purge inerte s'écoulant dans le réseau de canalisations (12) vers un dispositif (38) permettant de maintenir une contre-pression constante sur le gaz de purge inerte dans le réseau de canalisations (12) lors du soudage. Ainsi, toute variation de contre-pression se produisant dans le réseau de canalisations (12) provoque l'écoulement de plus ou moins de gaz de purge inerte à travers le dispositif (38) maintenant une contre-pression constante, ce qui permet de réaliser des soudures de précision pouvant être reproduites à grande échelle à l'aide d'une soudeuse orbitale.
