One introducer apparatus (10, 102, 156, 206) may include a flange (12, 116, 162, 212) and a sleeve (16, 34, 20, 214) having a sidewall (19, 120, 164) that extends longitudinally from the flange (12, 116, 162, 212) and terminates in a distal end portion (20, 122, 164, 208). At least one adjustable opening is operatively associated with the distal end portion (20, 122, 164, 208). The adjustable opening is moveable from a substantially closed condition to an open condition, which permits substantially free movement of an elongate member (40, 106, 170, 182) axially through a passage defined by the sidewall (19, 120, 164). An implanter (44, 100, 170, 222) can be utilized in combination with the introducer apparatus (10, 102, 156, 206) to facilitate implanting an article in a patient.
