A second set of telecommunication devices (IOP1, AM1, CM1) is arranged to substantially mirror a first set of telecommunication devices (IOP0,AM0, CM0) in order to provide redundancy. First and second computer modules are included, respectively, in the first and second sets of devices wherein each module is capable of providing operating system control of the system and both modules initially operating with the same operating system. Only one of the computer modules controls the system at a given time. One of the devices of each pair of devices in the first and second sets of devices is isolated from the corresponding other device. The isolated computer module is loaded with a new operating systemand tested by allowing the new operating system to control the isolated devices.This permits testing of the new operating system while maintaining uninterruptedcontrol which is provided by the other devices operating under the same operating system. A further capability is provided for transferring control of the system to the isolated devices thereby transferring control from the same operating system to the new operating system with a minimum of service disruption.

Un second ensemble de dispositifs de télécommunications (IOP1, AM1, CM1) est configuré pour reproduire substantiellement un premier ensemble de dispositifs de télécommunications (IOP0, AM0, CM0), assurant ainsi une redondance. Les premier et second modules informatiques sont respectivement inclus dans les premier et second ensembles de dispositifs, chaque module étant capable d'assurer la commande d'exploitation du système et les deux modules utilisant initialement le même système d'exploitation. Un seul des modules informatiques commande le système à un instant donné. Un des dispositifs de chaque paire constituée par les premier et second ensembles de dispositifs est isolé de l'autre dispositif correspondant. Un nouveau système d'exploitation est chargé dans le module informatique isolé et testé en permettant au nouveau système d'exploitation de commander les dispositifs isolés. Il est ainsi possible de tester le nouveau système d'exploitation tout en maintenant une commande ininterrompue, fournie par les autres dispositifs que gère le même système d'exploitation. La commande du système peut également être transférée aux dispositifs isolés, ce qui permet le passage au nouveau système d'exploitation avec une interruption minimale du service.
