The present invention relates to a method of using an apparatus for restricting access to ports (114a, 114b, 1 14c and 114d) that may be disposed in a bonnet (104) that houses valves (107, 108, 110 and 112) on a railcar (106). More specifically, the present invention relates to a method of using a template (1) that may be lowered over the bonnet (104) of the railcar (106) wherein the template (1) has a plurality of differently-sized apertures (40, 42, 44 and 46) to allow access to specially- sized nozzles. In addition, the valves (107, 108, 110 and 112) may be eduction valves and/or vapor valves, and the apertures (40, 42, 44 and 46) may allow a specific-sized nozzle to have access to the eduction valves, the vapor valves or both. The template (1) may lower onto the bonnet (104) via a frame (10) that may be pivotally attached to a structure. Further, joints (22, 24) and ball joint connections (26, 28) may be provided to allow the template (1) to be movable so as to precisely fit over the bonnet (104) of the railcar (106).
