The present invention relates to agglomerated zeolitic adsorbents based on zeolite X with an Si/Al ratio such that 1.15 < Si/Al £ 1.5, consisting of crystals with a mean diameter of 1.7 mm or less and of an inert binder, at least 90% of the exchangeable cationic sites of the zeolite X being occupied by barium ions. They may be obtained by agglomerating zeolite X powder having a mean diameter of 1.7 mm or less with a binder, followed by zeolitization of the binder, exchange of the zeolite ions with barium (and potassium) ions and activation of the adsorbents thus exchanged. These adsorbents exhibit, simultaneously, excellent selectivity, reduced mass transfer resistance and excellent mechanical strength and are particularly suitable for the adsorption of the paraxylene contained in C8 aromatic hydrocarbon fractions in liquid phase in processes of the simulated moving bed type and especially for the separation of paraxylene of C8 aromatic hydrocarbon fractions by adsorption, but also for the separation of sugars, polyhydric alcohols, cresols, and substitute toluene isomers.

La présente invention concerne des adsorbants zéolitiques agglomérés à base de zéolite X de rapport Si/Al tel que 1,15<Si/Al <=1,5 constitués de cristaux de diamètre moyen inférieur ou égal à 1,7 µm et de liant inerte dont au moins 90 % des sites cationiques échangeables de la zéolite X sont occupés par des ions baryum. On peut les obtenir en agglomérant de la poudre de zéolite X de diamètre moyen inférieur ou égal à 1,7 µm avec un liant suivi de la zéolitisation du liant, l'échange des ions de la zéolite par des ions baryum (et potassium) et l'activation des adsorbants ainsi échangés. Ces adsorbants présentent simultanément une sélectivité, une résistance au transfert de matière réduite et une résistance mécanique excellentes et sont particulièrement adaptés pour l'adsorption du paraxylène contenu dans des coupes d'hydrocarbures aromatiques en C8 en phase liquide dans les procédés de type lit mobile simulé et notamment pour la séparation par adsorption du paraxylène des coupes d'hydrocarbures aromatiques en C8, mais aussi pour la séparation des sucres, des alcools polyhydriques, des crésols, des isomères de toluène substitué.
