ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A denture adhesive base composition comprises a substantially anhydrous mixture of sucralfate, methyl vinyl ether-maleic acid and sodium carboxymethylcellulose. A denture adhesive composition including this base composition is provided, as well as a method for formulating the novel adhesives of the invention. Upon hydration, the denture adhesives of the invention form an adhesive yet extremely cohesive matrix whose final properties may be manipulated through varying sucralfate concentrations.
