A method to provide an efficient, safe, and easy to use supracapsular method for removal of cataracts, wherein a groove (52) is formed in the cataract nucleus (56, 58) is cracked along the groove (52) into two halves and rotated approximately 90 degrees, force is applied to the proximal half to effect movement of the distal half into a stacked position relative to the proximal half, and the nucleus halves (56, 58) along with the remainder of the cataract are then emulsified and removed. In order to minimize the chances of trauma to the capsule while sweeping the lens capsule away from cataract portions as well as making a crack in the nucleus and for otherwise assisting in manipulation of nucleus portions, an instrument has a prongless cataract- engaging portion, preferably with a convex frontal edge.
La présente invention concerne un procédé supracapsulaire permettant l'ablation de cataractes de façon efficace, fiable et simple. Selon ledit procédé : une rainure est pratiquée dans le noyau de la cataracte ; le noyau est fendu le long de la rainure en deux moitiés, et subit une rotation de 90 degrés ; une force est appliquée à la moitié proximale pour faire prendre à la moitié distale une position d'empilement par rapport à la moitié proximale ; et les moitiés de noyau sont ensuite émulsionnées et éliminées avec le reste de la cataracte. Afin de minimiser les risques de traumatisme de la capsule au cours du retrait de la capsule du cristallin des parties de cataracte et au cours de la formation de la fente dans le noyau, et pour favoriser la manipulation de parties du noyau, est utilisé un instrument qui présente une partie de fixation à la cataracte dépourvue de pince, ayant de préférence un bord frontal convexe.
