The present invention provides compositions and methods for treating an animal, preferably a human, suffering from or predisposed to a physical disorder by administering an effective amount of a composition comprising at least one RAR antagonist, preferably an RAR.alpha. antagonist, and at least one RXR agonist. The combination of an RXR agonist, which has no therapeutic effects alone, with an RAR antagonist allows the use of lower doses of the RAR antagonist than were previously thought to be efficacious; this approach obviates many of the undesirable physiological side-effects of treatment with RAR antagonists.
Cette invention se rapporte à des compositions et à des procédés grâce auxquels on peut traiter un animal, de préférence un être humain, souffrant d'un trouble physique ou ayant une prédisposition pour un tel trouble, en lui administrant une quantité efficace d'une composition contenant au moins un antagoniste de RAR, de préférence un antagoniste de RAR.alpha., et au moins un agoniste de RXR. La combinaison d'un agoniste de RXR, qui n'a pas d'effet thérapeutique tout seul, avec un antagoniste de RAR permet l'utilisation de doses plus faibles de l'antagoniste de RAR par rapport à ce que l'on a pensé jusqu'ici comme étant efficace. Cette approche permet d'éviter un grand nombre des effets secondaires physiologiques indésirables rencontrés lors du traitement avec des antagonistes de RAR.
