Double-sided, self-cleansing media, and systems incorporating the same for a rotating biological contactor, are described. The media include a disk having cone- shaped members extending perpendicularly from both major faces thereof. Two or more disks lock together, axially about a rotating central shaft, by connecting cone- shaped members spaced throughout the disk surface having a socket at their base to receive the top of the corresponding connecting cone- shaped member on the adjacent disk. The cone-shaped members, by virtue of their length, space the disks a desired distance. Disk segments can link to one another along either straight and/or curved connection portions thereof. The geometry of the media provides free passage of the air and water during each revolution, and while the base disk slices through the air and water, the projecting cone-shaped members enter the air and water perpendicular to the direction of rotation and are washed clear of excess biomass during each rotation.

L'invention concerne un multimédia autonettoyant, double face et des systèmes le contenant destinés à mettre en rotation un contacteur biologique. Le multimédia comprend un disque ayant des éléments en forme de cônes s'étendant de façon perpendiculaire à partir des deux faces principales de celui-ci. Deux ou plusieurs disques se verrouillent ensemble, axialement autour d'un arbre central rotatif, par connexion des éléments en forme de cône espacés sur la surface du disque possédant un support au niveau de leur base afin de recevoir le sommet de l'élément en forme de cône de connexion correspondante sur le disque adjacent. Les éléments en forme de cône espacent les disques d'une distance souhaitée grâce à leur longueur. Des segments de disque peuvent se lier entre eux le long de parties de connexion rectilignes et/ou incurvées de ceux-ci. La géométrie du support fournit un passage d'air et d'eau libre durant chaque révolution, et alors que le disque de base coupe à travers l'air et l'eau, les éléments en forme de cône en saillie traversent l'air et l'eau de façon perpendiculaire à la direction de rotation et sont nettoyés de leur biomasse excédentaire durant chaque rotation.
