An isolated power supply for protecting electrical devices from transient voltages and currents is disclosed. Specifically, the filter has a toroid (110) and resistor (102) which are used in conjunction with an isolator transformer (30). The transformer's secondary windings (124) are coupled to the electrical load (12) sought to be isolated. The primary windings (122) of the transformer are tied to an alternating current source (14) with an earth ground lead (18). The primary shield lead (138) of the transformer is tied to the earth ground lead. The secondary shield lead (134) of the transformer is also tied to the earth ground. A toroid inductor and resistor in parallel are coupled between the secondary neutral lead (68) and the secondary ground lead (70) to shunt off current or voltage spikes. The earth ground is part of a chassis which prevents spark jump insuring the isolation of the power source. The isolator thus provides equal voltage potential between the secondary lead and the primary earth ground at frequencies of less than 1 kHz.

Spécifiquement, le filtre comporte un tore (110) et une résistance (102) qui sont utilisés conjointement avec un transformateur-isolateur (30). Les enroulements secondaires (124) du transformateur sont couplés à la charge électrique (12) à isoler. Les enroulements primaires (122) du transformateur sont reliés à une source de courant alternatif (14) à conducteur de terre (18). Le conducteur blindé primaire (138) du transformateur est relié au conducteur de terre. Le conducteur blindé secondaire (134) du transformateur est également relié à la terre. Une inductance et une résistance toroïdales en parallèle sont couplées entre le conducteur neutre secondaire (68) et le conducteur de terre secondaire (70) pour mettre en dérivation les pointes de tension ou de courant. La terre fait partie d'un châssis empêchant le saut d'étincelles et assurant ainsi l'isolation de la source de courant. L'isolateur génère par conséquent un potentiel de tensions égal entre le conducteur secondaire et le conducteur de terre primaire, à des fréquences inférieures à 1 kHz.
