Provided is a polyalkenyl sulfonic acid composition comprising a mixture of polyalkenyl sulfonic acids derived from a mixture of polyalkenes comprising greater than 20 mole percent alkyl vinylidene and 1,1-dialkyl isomers, and a method for making the composition. Also provided are low and high overbased sulfonates made from the mixture of polyalkenyl sulfonic acids, and lubricating oils containing the sulfonates.

L'invention concerne des compositions d'acide sulfonique polyalcényle comprenant un mélange d'acides sulfoniques polyalcényles obtenus à partir d'un mélange de polyalcènes renfermant plus de 20 pourcents molaire d'isomères d'alkyle et de 1,1-dialkyle de vinylidène, ainsi qu'un procédé permettant d'obtenir cette composition. L'invention concerne également des sulfonates fortement et faiblement surbasiques obtenus à partir d'un mélange d'acides sulfoniques polyalcényles, ainsi que des huiles lubrifiantes contenant ces sulfonates.
