A novel fastener comprising a head, shaft and tip, the tip having an indent formed therein such that the rim of the indent portion forms a cutting edge, and methods of making same is provided. The invention is particularly suitable for use with nails but is also useful for fasteners such as screws and spikes. The indent and cutting edge of the tip provides for a fastener which requires less force to be driven into isotropic materials such as concrete and anistropic materials such as wood and exhibits greater holding power than conventional fasteners such as diamond pointed nails. The use of the fastener of the invention in association with wood reduces the chances of the wood splitting as the fastener is being driven.

Nouveau dispositif de fixation comprenant une tête, une tige et une pointe, cette dernière présentant une entaille formée de façon que le rebord de la partie entaillée forme un bord de coupe, et méthode de fabrication. L'invention convient particulièrement bien aux clous, mais également aux dispositifs de fixation comme des vis et des grands clous. Le bord entaillé et de coupe de la pointe permet la création d'un dispositif de fixation nécessitant moins de force pour être enfoncé dans des matériaux isotropiques comme le béton et des matériaux anisotropiques comme le bois et présentant une résistance à l'arrachement plus élevée que celle des dispositifs de fixation classiques comme les clous à tranche angulaire. L'utilisation de ce dispositif de fixation avec le bois réduit les risques de fendre le bois lorsqu'on y enfonce le dispositif.
