Apparatus is used in communicating in a data and voice communication system. The apparatus includes a line card (6020) and a crosspoint switch (6040) in communication with the line card. The apparatus also includes an accelerator card (6030) in communication with the line card (6020) and the crosspoint switch (6040). The crosspoint switch (6040) is configured to provide a redundant communications path between the line card (6020) and the accelerator card (6030).
