The invention relates to a novel process for the manufacture of mouldings, especially contact lenses, in which a soluble prepolymer comprising crosslinkable groups iscross-linked in solution, and also to mouldings, especially contact lenses, obtainable in accordance with that process. The present invention relates also to novel prepolymers that can be used in the process according to the invention, especially derivatives of a polyvinyl alcohol having a molecular weight of at least about 2000 that, based on the number of hydroxy groups of the polyvinyl alcohol, comprise from approximately 0.5 to approximately 80 % of units of formula I (see fig. I) wherein R is lower alkylene having up to 8 carbon atoms, R1 is hydrogen or lower alkyl and R2 is an olefinically unsaturated, electron-attracting, copolymerisable radical preferably having up to 25 carbon atoms, to crosslinked polymers, either homo- or co-polymers of those novel prepolymers, to processes for the preparation of the novel prepolymers and the homo- and co-polymers obtainable therefrom, to mouldings made from the said homo- or co-polymers, especially contact lenses made from those homo- or co-polymers, and to processes for the manufacture of contact lenses using the said homo- or co-polymers.
L'invention concerne un nouveau procédé pour la fabrication d'objets moulés, et particulièrement de lentilles cornéennes, dans lequel un prépolymère soluble comprenant des groupes réticulables est réticulé en solution, ainsi que les objets moulés, et particulièrement de lentilles cornéennes, que l'on peut obtenir avec ce procédé. La présente invention concerne également de nouveaux prépolymères qui peuvent être utilisés dans le procédé faisant l'objet de l'invention, et particulièrement des dérivés d'un poly(alcool de vinyle) dont le poids moléculaire est d'au moins environ 2 000 qui, par rapport au nombre de groupes hydroxy du poly(alcool de vinyle), comprennent d'environ 0,5 à environ 80 % de motifs de formule I (voir fig. I) où R est un alkylène inférieur ayant jusqu'à 8 atomes de carbone, R1 est un hydrogène ou un alkyle inférieur et R2 est un radical attracteur d'électron oléfiniquement insaturé copolymérisable ayant de préférence jusqu'à 25 atomes de carbone; l'invention concerne également les polymères réticulés, aussi bien les homopolymères que les co-polymères, dérivés de ces nouveaux prépolymères, les procédés pour la préparation des nouveaux prépolymères et des homo- et co-polymères obtenus avec ces derniers, les objets moulés fabriqués à partir desdits homo- ou co-polymères, et particulièrement les lentilles cornéennes fabriquées à partir de ces homo- ou co-polymères, et les procédés pour la fabrication de lentilles cornéennes à l'aide desdits homo- ou co-polymères.
