An elevator is disclosed and comprises lifts, disposed in a group and secured to a scaffold in horizontally-spaced relation to define therebetween one or more intermediate locations alongside said scaffold. Each lift includes: an upright rail secured to said structure; a shuttle mounted for movement along the rail; a winch mounted to the shuttle for movement therewith; and a cable extending from a location proximal to the rail top to the winch such that actuation of the winch to coil the cable draws the shuttle upward. Decks, provided one for each location, are supported by the shuttles flanking said each location to provide a platform for a standing mason. Benches, provided one for each location, are supported by the shuttles flanking said each location to provide an elevated surface, elevated in relation to the deck provided for said each location, from which said mason can retrieve building materials.
