This invention relates to a reaction injection molding process for preparing a molded product comprising reacting, at an isocyanate index of about 70 to about 130, (a) an organic polyisocyanate; (b) one or more isocyanate-reactive compounds containing at least two isocyanate-reactive groups; (c) about 0.5 to about 40% by weight, based on the weight of the molded product, of rigid microspheres, wherein at least 95% of said microspheres have a particle size range of about 10 µm to about 400 µm and a median diameter of at least 120 µm, (d) optionally, an inert gas dissolved in at least one of components (a) or (b) in an amount sufficient to produce a molded product having a density that is at least 1% less than the density of a molded product prepared in the same manner without using an inert gas but which is at least 0.2 g/cm3; (e) 0 to 45% by weight, based upon the weight of the molded product, of a reinforcing filler other than rigid microspheres; and (f) optionally, a blowing agent.

L'invention porte sur un procédé de moulage par injection et réaction permettant de préparer un produit moulé en faisant réagir, à un indice d'isocyanate allant d'environ 70 à environ 130, (a) un polyisocyanate organique, (b) un ou plusieurs composés réagissant avec l'isocyanate, contenant au moins deux groupes réagissant avec l'isocyanate, (c) des microsphères rigides dont le poids représente d'environ 0,5 à environ 40 % du poids du produit moulé et dont au moins 95 % ont une taille comprise entre environ 10 µm et environ 400 µm et un diamètre moyen d'au moins 120 µm, (d) facultativement un gaz inerte dissous dans au moins un des constituants (a) ou (b) en quantité suffisante pour donner un produit moulé ayant une densité d'au moins 1 % inférieure à la densité d'un produit moulé préparé de la même façon sans l'addition d'un gaz inerte, mais au moins égale à 0,2 g/cm3, (e) une charge renforçante, autre que des microsphères rigides, dont le poids représente de 0 à 45 % du poids du produit moulé, et (f) facultativement un gonflant.
