A process for the preparation of antibiotics of the anthracycline class of formula (A), wherein R1 is hydrogen, OH, or OCOR2, wherein R2 is a C1-C4-alkyl group; which comprises the epimerization of the 4' hydroxy group of the daunosamine residue by nucleophilic substitution of a triflate group with a carboxylate, which epimerization is carried out on the whole molecule with the hydroxy groups being protected, and subsequent transformation into the final product.

Procédé de préparation d'antibiotiques de la famille des anthracyclines de formule (A) dans laquelle R<1> représente hydrogène, OH ou OCOR<2>, où R<2> représente un groupe alkyle C1-C4, ce procédé consistant à épimériser le groupe 4' hydroxy du reste de daunosamine par substitution nucléophile d'un groupe triflate avec un carboxylate, cette épimérisation s'effectuant sur la molécule entière, les groupes hydroxy étant protégés, puis à procéder à une transformation ultérieure afin d'obtenir le produit final.
