ABSTRACT The invention relates to a cancer-specific diagnostic agent. The diagnostic agent is a 2-(3-aminopropyl)amino-4- hydroxy-6-[(1'R,2')-1',2'-dihydroxypropyl] pteridine compound and is referred to as oncopterin. The invention also relates to the use of the compound as a substance for quantitatively determining the diagnostic agent as well as to detection and purification methods for the diagnostic agent. The indicated diagnostic agent is more specific than known cancer indicators and makes possible routine detection on a micro scale from any body fluid, particularly urine.
