TITLE SEROLOGICAL DETECTION OF CATTLE GRUB INFESTATION INVENTORS ROBERT W. BARON DOUGLAS D. COLWELL ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A relatively early detection of cattle infesta- tion with larvae of warble flies e.g. Hypoderma lineatum and H. bovis, is essential for determining the prevalence of cattle grub infestation and thus for an economical cattle treatment (vaccination) program. A known detec- tion method based on ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) has proven effective in such early detection, but not selective enough to differentiate between infested and vaccinated cattle. An improvement of the method is proposed which involves the use of selected culture- derived antigens rather than crude proteinaceous extracts isolated directly from biological material.
