An energy absorbing device for safely arresting moving bodies. Ap- plications of the device include fall protection systems that protect work- ers on elevated structures from acci- dental falls. The energy absorbing de- vice includes a coiled strip capable of dissipating energy when a tensile force applied across the device gen- erates an internal bending strain that exceeds the elastic limit of the mate- rial. The tensile load developed on the safety track during an accidental fall unwinds the strip, thus progres- sively taking-up the kinetic energy of the moving body.

Un dispositif absorbeur d'énergie permet d'arrêter des corps en mouvement de manière sûre. Ses utilisations incluent des systèmes anti-chute qui protègent des chutes accidentelles les ouvriers se trouvant sur des structures élevées. Ce dispositif absorbeur d'énergie comprend une bande enroulée pouvant dissiper de l'énergie quand une force de traction appliquée à ce dispositif produit une contrainte de courbure interne qui dépasse la limite d'élasticité du matériau. La charge de traction appliquée à la zone de sécurité pendant une chute accidentelle déroule cette bande, ce qui permet d'absorber progressivement l'énergie cinétique du corps en mouvement.
