A new generation magnetic tape cartridge of the type having a leader block is provided along with a new generation leader block pin so as to prevent interlocking with respect to prior art leader blocks and leader block pins. The magnetic tape cartridge is a generally rectangular container which has four corners. One of the corners of the container is beveled and is provided with a well to receive the new generation leader block in a nested position. The new generation leader block has a notch which has top, bottom and middle portions. A cross section of the middle portion of the notch is smaller than the cross section of the bottom portion of the notch, and the cross section of the top portion of the notch is smaller than the cross section of the middle portion of the notch. The cross section of the bottom portion of the notch is defined by a circular arc of more than 180° for receiving and capturing a new generation leader block pin. The top portion of the notch in the block is fashioned to confine the new generation leader block pin to a predetermined amount of lateral movement. The configurations of the notch of the new generation leader block and the new generation leader block pin are fashioned to prevent interlock with prior art leader blocks and leader block pins.

Cette cartouche de bande magnétique est constituée d'une boîte de forme globalement rectangulaire à quatre coins. L'un de ceux-ci est biseauté et pourvu d'un boîtier qui peut recevoir le bloc de guidage de nouvelle génération en position encastrée. Ce bloc de guidage de nouvelle génération présente une encoche où apparaissent une section inférieure, centrale et supérieure. Une coupe transversale de la section centrale de cette encoche est plus petite qu'une coupe transversale de sa section inférieure, et une coupe transversale de sa section supérieure est plus petite qu'une coupe transversale de sa section centrale. La coupe transversale de la section inférieure de cette encoche correspond à un arc de cercle de plus de 180 degrés destiné à accueillir et à saisir un axe de bloc de guidage de nouvelle génération. La section supérieure de cette encoche du bloc est conçue pour ne laisser à l'axe de bloc de guidage de nouvelle génération qu'une certaine liberté de mouvement latéral prédéterminée. La forme de cette encoche de bloc de guidage de nouvelle génération et de cet axe de bloc de guidage de nouvelle génération est conçue pour rendre incompatible son utilisation avec les blocs de guidage et les axes de bloc de guidage de la technique antérieure.
