An electronic turbocharger control system for an internal combustion engine is provided to control at least one turbocharger by controlling a bypass valve and a wastegate in response to the engine speed, engine load, ambient temperature, and the operating environment's barometric pressure wherein the turbocharger is controlled to operate within predetermined islands of efficiency on a pressure ratio versus mass airflow map thereby allowing the adaptation of one turbocharger assembly for various applications. The method and apparatus provides improved engine efficiency and increases low speed torque.

Système de commande électronique de turbocompresseur pour moteur à combustion interne servant à commander au moins un turbocompresseur en commandant une soupape de dérivation et un limiteur de pression de suralimentation en réaction au régime du moteur, à la charge du moteur, à la température ambiante et à la pression barométrique du milieu ambiant, le turbocompresseur étant commandé pour fonctionner à l'intérieur d'îlots prédéterminés d'efficacité avec un taux de compression en fonction du débit massique d'air à l'admission, ce qui permet l'adaptation d'un même ensemble turbocompresseur pour diverses applications. La méthode et l'appareil assurent une efficacité améliorée du moteur et augmentent le couple à basse vitesse.
