A new polymorphic form of (.plusmn.)7-[3-(4-acetyl-3-methoxy-2- propylphenoxy)propoxy]-3,4~- dihydro-8-propyl-2H-1-benzopyran-2-carboxylic acid is disclosed. The compound has a melting point of 80~C to 82~ C and is a leukotriene B4 antagonist ("LBA~). The compound is useful for diminishing the adverse effects (e.g. vascular leakage syndrome) of IL-2 treatment. Administering the compound with IL-2 diminishes the adverse effects of IL-2 and preserves or enhances the beneficial effects of LBA administration on a subject, while simultaneously mitigating the adverse effects of using a LBA. The method involves administering an amount of LBA, preferably the new polymorphic form, to a subject undergoing IL-2 treatment, where the amount administered is such that the LBA is maintained in a specified range over the treatment schedule. Also disclosed is an article of manufacture comprising a composition of the new polymorph with labeling instructions for treatment. Also disclosed is a method for preparing a pharmaceutical composition of the new polymorph and a method for preparing the polymorph itself.

L'invention concerne une nouvelle forme polymorphe de (.plusmn.)7-[3-(4-acetyl-3-méthoxy-2-propylphénoxy)propoxy]-3,4-dihydro-8-propyl-2H-1-benzopyran-2-acide carboxylique. Ce composé présente un point de fusion de 80 ·C à 82 ·C et est un antagoniste du leucotriène B4 ("LBA ). Ce composé est utile pour diminuer les effets secondaires (p. ex. syndrome de fuites vasculaires) d'un traitement avec l'IL-2. L'administration de composé conjointement à l'IL-2 permet de réduire les effets secondaires de l'IL-2 et préserve ou augmente les effets bénéfiques de l'administration de LBA chez un sujet, tout en atténuant les effets secondaires associés à l'utilisation d'un LBA. Cette méthode consiste à administrer une dose de LBA, de préférence la nouvelle forme polymorphe décrite, à un sujet recevant un traitement à l'IL-2, la dose administrée étant calculée de manière que le LBA est maintenu dans une plage prédéterminée pendant le déroulement du traitement. L'invention concerne en outre un article manufacturé comprenant une composition de ce nouveau polymorphe, ainsi qu'un étiquetage comprenant des instructions de traitement. Un procédé permettant de préparer une composition pharmaceutique de ce nouveau polymorphe et un procédé de préparation du polymorphe proprement dit sont également décrits.
