The present invention relates to a method for diagnosing a cardiac disease, particularly an acute cardiac event, in a patient presenting with symptoms of acute cardiac decompensation, comprising the steps of (a) measuring, preferably in vitro, the level of NT-proBNP (N-terminal brain natriuretic peptide) or a variant thereof in a sample from the patient, (b) measuring, preferably in vitro, the level of NT-proANP (N-terminal atrial natriuretic peptide) or a variant thereof in a sample from the patient, (c) combining the information of the measured levels of NT-proANP and NT-proBNP, wherein an increased level of NT-proANP in presence of a non- increased or weakly increased level of NT- proBNP indicates the presence of an acute cardiac event, or wherein an increased level of NT-proANP in presence of a highly increased level of NT-proBNP indicates the presence of a chronic cardiac disease. The present invention also allows to distinguish an acute cardiac event from decompensation of a chronic cardiac disease. The present invention also relates to the use of corresponding kits and to methods of treatment of cardiac diseases.

La présente invention fait référence à un procédé pour le diagnostic d~une maladie cardiaque, en particulier d~un évènement cardiaque aigu, chez un patient présentant des symptômes de décompensation cardiaque aiguë, et comprenant les étapes de (a) mesure, de préférence in vitro, du niveau de NT-proBNP (peptide natriurétique N-terminal du cerveau) ou de sa variante dans un échantillon provenant du patient, (b) mesure, de préférence in vitro, du niveau de NT-proANP (peptide natriurétique N-terminal atrial) ou de sa variante dans un échantillon provenant du patient, (c) combinaison des informations des niveaux mesurés de NT-proANP et de NT-proBNP, un niveau augmenté de NT-proANP en présence d~un niveau non augmenté ou faiblement augmenté de NT-proBNP indiquant la présence d~un évènement cardiaque aigu, ou un niveau augmenté de NT-proANP en présence d~un niveau fortement augmenté de NT-proBNP indiquant la présence d~une maladie cardiaque chronique. La présente invention permet aussi de distinguer un évènement cardiaque aigu d~une décompensation d~une maladie cardiaque chronique. La présente invention concerne aussi l~utilisation des nécessaires correspondants et des procédés de traitement des maladies cardiaques.
