ABSTRACT A waterbed filtered filling and conditioning system is disclosed wherein a filling probe is inserted into a male filler neck of a waterbed. A coupling unit is provided to couple a filler hose to the male filler neck of the waterbed for retaining the filling probe in the filler neck. The filling probe has a filter system for filtering water flowing from the filler hose into the waterbed. The filter system preferably comprises a plurality of filters including a core filter and additional filters designed for smaller particle sizes wrapped around the core filter. The filling probe also has a solid water conditioner chemical contained therein for dissolving and conditioning the water flowing into the waterbed during filling. Preferably the conditioner is located in a central aperture within the core filter. The coupling unit comprises a double female fitting. Either the filling probe or also a draining probe can be dropped down from the top through the double female fitting. The two female fittings are connected together by a collar-like extension extending down from the top female fitting. With the invention, the serious problem of waterbed mattresses which emit strong odors as a result of bacteria contamination is greatly reduced.
