ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An unusual cytostatic (PS ED50 0.21 µg/ml) cycloheptapeptide has been isolated from the Western Pacific marine sponge Axinella sp. and iB herein designated axinastatin 1. Separation of a methylene chloride methanol extract of the sponge by means of PS P388 guided bioassay and a series of detailed solvent partition, gel permeation and adsorption column chromatographic techniques separated the cycloheptapeptide having the structure. - 20 -
