A curing light for dental filling materials is used in combination with a light guide that bears a unique identifying code. A code reader in the nose cone of the curing light compares the code on the light guide with stored codes. If the code is a new code, a timer is started and provides a time out signal after expiry of a predetermined time representing the working time of the light guide. The time out signal may de-activate the light so that it cannot be used again until a new tip is inserted.

L'invention concerne un dispositif de photodurcissement de matériaux dentaires d'obturation utilisé conjointement avec un guide optique pourvu d'un code d'identification unique. Un lecteur de code logé dans la pointe avant de ce dispositif de photodurcissement compare le code du guide optique avec des codes mémorisés. Si le code est nouveau, un temporisateur est actionné et produit un signal de temporisation après l'expiration d'une durée prédéterminée représentant le temps de travail du guide optique. Le signal de temporisation peut désactiver ledit dispositif de manière qu'il ne puisse plus être actionné jusqu'à l'insertion d'une nouvelle pointe.
