An ophthalmic composition for soft contact lenses (SCLs) which contains a terpenoid as the active ingredient; another ophthalmic composition for SCLs which further contains a polyoxyethylene sorbitan ester; a method of enhancing the wettability of SCLs which comprises bringing a terpenoid into contact with the SCLs; and a method of inhibiting terpenoid adsorption onto SCLs which comprises incorporating a polyoxyethylene sorbitan ester into an ophthalmic composition containing a terpenoid. The ophthalmic composition containing a terpenoid functions, for example, to improve the wettability of SCLs and thus inhibit the water content of the SCLs from decreasing. It is hence effective in inhibiting a dry feeling or an incomfortable feeling during SCL wearing. It is thus useful for enhancing the wettability of SCLs. By incorporating a polyoxyethylene sorbitan ester, the terpenoid is inhibited from being adsorbed onto SCLs.
L'invention concerne: une composition ophtalmique pour lentilles de contact souples (SCL) contenant un terpénoïde comme ingrédient actif; une autre composition ophtalmique pour SCL contenant en outre un ester de sorbitanne de polyoxyéthylène; un procédé d'amélioration de la mouillabilité de SCL, le procédé consistant à mettre le terpénoïde en contact avec les SCL; et un procédé d'inhibition de l'adsorption du terpénoïde sur les SCL, le procédé consistant à introduire un ester de sorbitanne de polyoxyéthylène dans une composition ophtalmique contenant un terpénoïde. La composition ophtalmique contenant un terpénoïde permet, par exemple, d'améliorer la mouillabilité des SCL et inhibe la réduction de la teneur en eau des SCL. Elle est donc efficace pour inhiber une sensation de sécheresse ou une sensation désagréable éprouvée par le porteur de SCL. Ainsi, elle permet d'améliorer la mouillabilité des SCL. Grâce à l'introduction d'un ester de sorbitanne de polyoxyéthylène, on empêche le terpénoïde d'être adsorbé sur les SCL.
