Pruning wound cover protects pruning wounds from infection by air-borne fungal pathogens. It covers the surface of the pruning wounds thus providing a physical barrier between the pruning wound and the pathogen. Pruning wound cover stops the entrance of spores in to grapevines and other woody plants through pruning wounds. Pruning wound cover is made from a sturdy plastic or vinyl. It comes in different sizes and designs depending on the size and origin of the wound. Bag-type cover is designed to protect pruning wounds on spurs. Strip-type cover is designed to protect wounds that are close to the trunk. Both bag-type and strip-type covers are provided with a touch button to close the cover and protect it from being blown away by the wind or washed off by rain. This cover should be immediately placed on pruning wounds after pruning.
