An in-line skate consisting of a plurality of linearly aligned rollers carried by a sole-secured frame comprises a light emitting device which may be mounted to the front, rear or sides of the skate to provide a safety feature. The device consists of a magnet mounted to one of the rollers and of a solenoid winding and core mounted to the frame. Light is emitted each time the magnet passes by the solenoid core and generates electromagnetic forces in the coil connected to a light source.
