Apparatus for Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance testing a sample comprises: means (102) for applying excitation to the sample to excite NQR resonance, the excitation comprising at least one excitation pulse, the or each pulse covering a selected excitation frequency range, for the or each pulse the phase of the excitation varying generally non-linearly with the excitation frequency over the selected range; and means (106) for detecting the NQR response signal.

Un appareil permettant de soumettre un échantillon à un essai de résonance quadripolaire nucléaire (NQR) comprend: des moyens (102) permettant d'appliquer une excitation à l'échantillon afin d'exciter la résonance NQR, ladite excitation comprenant au moins une impulsion d'excitation, cette ou ces impulsions couvrant une plage de fréquences d'excitation choisie et la phase de l'excitation variant, pour ladite ou chacune desdites impulsions, de manière généralement non linéaire avec la fréquence d'excitation dans la plage choisie; ainsi que des moyens (106) de détection du signal de réponse NQR.
