The invention provides methods and kits for diagnosing and monitoring inflammation and/or ischemia in an animal. The methods comprise determining the quantity of a post-translationally modified protein, other than phosphorylated tau, present in a body fluid from an animal. The invention also provides an improved method and kits for diagnosing appendicitis in an animal. The method comprises determining the quantities of orthohydroxyhippuric acid and of a marker of general inflammation, such as a post-translationally modified protein, present in one or more body fluids of the animal.

L'invention concerne des procédés et des nécessaires permettant de diagnostiquer et de surveiller une inflammation et/ou ischémie chez un animal. Lesdits procédés consistent, entre autres, à déterminer la quantité d'une protéine modifiée après le processus de traduction, différente de la protéine tau phosphorylée, contenue dans un liquide organique provenant d'un animal. Cette invention se rapporte en outre à des procédés et des nécessaires améliorés permettant de diagnostiquer une appendicite chez un animal. Ces procédés consistent, entre autres, à déterminer les quantités d'acide orthohydroxyhippurique et d'un marqueur d'une inflammation générale, tel qu'une protéine modifiée après le processus de traduction, contenues dans un ou plusieurs liquides organiques provenant de cet animal.
