A method for use by a host microprocessor which translates sequences of instructions from a target instruction set for a target processor to sequences of instructions for the host microprocessor including the steps of beginning execution of a speculative sequence of target instructions by committing state of the target processor and storing memory stores previously generated by execution at a point (20) in the execution of instructions at which state of the target processor is known, executing the speculative sequence of host instructions until another point (21) in the execution of target instructions at which state of the target processor is known, rolling back to last committed state of the target processor and discarding the memory stores generated by the speculative sequence of host instructions if execution fails, and beginning execution of a next sequence of target instructions if execution succeeds.
La présente invention concerne un procédé destiné à un microprocesseur hôte qui consiste à traduire des séquences d'instructions en provenance d'un ensemble d'instructions cibles destinées à un processeur cible en séquences d'instructions destinées à ce microprocesseur hôte. Ce procédé consiste à commencer l'exécution d'une séquence spéculative d'instructions cibles par la sauvegarde de l'état du processeur cible et le stockage des données en mémoire générées auparavant par l'exécution d'un point (20) de l'exécution d'instructions pour lequel l'état du processeur cible est connu. Ce procédé consiste ensuite à exécuter la séquence spéculative des instructions hôtes jusqu'à un autre point de l'exécution des instructions cibles pour lequel l'état du processeur cible est connu, à revenir à l'état sauvegardé du processeur cible et à effacer les données en mémoire générées par cette séquence spéculative d'instructions hôtes si l'exécution échoue, et à commencer l'exécution d'une séquence suivante d'instructions cibles si l'exécution réussit.
