Abstract PROCEDURE FOR COMPACTING A SET OF ITEMS OF DIFFERENT SHAPES AND HAVING COMPRESSIVE ELASTICITY, REDUCING THEIR TOTAL VOLUME The procedure calls for a first compression step to precompact the material, where said compression is carried out in a direction (a), a second compression step to compact the material, carried out in a direction (b) that is perpendicular to the first, an operation to bundle up the compacted material in the form of a bale (8), and an operation to remove bale (8) from the pressing zone. The sequence of precompaction and compaction operations can be repeated several times, with gradually increasing levels of compression, in order to increase the isotropy of the bale. Bales (8) that are obtained can be used as a vibration-damping foundation and as a substrate for farmland that is able to hold rain water or water and/or other liquid with which the ground is wetted.
