The intention relates to a method for reducing frequency crosstalk in the trans- mission of digitized audio signals. Frequency crosstalk must always be expected if the subdivision of the input signal takes place on partial bands in series-connected stages. In the method according to the invention signals from partial bands in which spectral components of specific frequencies occur as signal components and signals from partial bands in which said spectral components occur as crosstalk components in the stop range undergo a weighted summation. Following transmission, the partial band signals undergo an inverse operation to the weighted summation. The method operates independently of the chosen encoding process and is consequently universally usable.
