Description

The invention provides a method of transporting freight by truck between two load points located long distances apart. The method comprises dividing the route between the load points into segments, each segment being a distance of about a half days' drive for a driver and each segment between the load points terminating in switch points. Trucks carrying freight are dispatched from each load point towards the other at about the same time. A driver of each truck meets a driver and truck with a load of freight dispatched from the opposite direction at about the same time so as to meet at the adjacent switch point. The drivers are switched at each switch point so that each driver will then return to the point from which that driver commenced. The progress of the trucks towards the switch points is monitored and the location of the switch points are adjusted, if necessary, so the trucks will arrive at the switch points at about the same time, whereby the freight from each load point will continue on non-stop in a similar manner to progressive switch points and to its final destination while each driver will return to that driver's starting point each day with another load of freight.
