A method of adjusting the composition of a molten metal (2) wherein said molten method (2) is sucked from an initial container (4) into a reactor (5) in which the pressure is lower than that in the initial container (4). The metal (2) is allowed to flow in said reactor (5) in a manner approaching a ram flow, and is processed metallurgically. From the reactor (5), said metal (2) is discharged into a collector container (11), the pressure in the reactor (5) again being lower than that in the collector container. A continuous feed of metal (2) is provided to the initial container and a continuous discharge is effected from the collector container (11). In one embodiment, the molten metal (2) is steel, metallurgical processing involves decarburizing, the denitriding or deoxidation by carbon in a vacuum, and the collector container (11) is a continuous casting distributor. A plant for adjusting the composition of molten metal, using said method, is also disclosed.
