ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An activated charcoal composition suitable for printing or coating onto stretchable or non-stretchable fabric comprises charcoal particles, SMA 1440H in the range from 1 to 6 parts per hundred charcoal (pphC) as a wetting agent, high viscosity carboxymethyl cellulose in the range from 0.5 to 7 pphC and acrylic latex in the range from 10 to 30 pphC. A corresponding method of making the composition comprises adding the wetting agent and charcoal to enough water to wet the charcoal particles; high shear mixing the water and charcoal particles to totally wet the charcoal particles: and mixing in the high viscosity carboxymethyl cellulose and acrylic latex. In a flame retardant version flame retardants in the range from 15 to 65 pphC are added and the lower end of the acrylic latex range is increased to 15 pphC.
