A light-emitting diode illumination device comprises a standard light-bulb base for receiving AC electrical power, a power supply assembly securely attached and electrically connected to the standard light-bulb base, a planar disc securely attached to the power supply assembly, and a plurality of high-efficiency light-emitting diode chips securely mounted on the bottom surface of the planar disc and electrically connected to the power supply assembly. The standard light-bulb base has the capability of being screwed into a standard light-bulb socket on a ceiling or a wall of a room. In another embodiment of the invention, the planar disc has the capability of being positioned into a grid of a suspended ceiling or a grid of a wall of a room. The light-emitting diode illumination device may further comprise a screen securely mounted below the plurality of high-efficiency light-emitting diode chips. This invention relates to illumination devices, and the principal use of the invention is for ceiling lamps and wall lamps in a room.
