A pharmaceutical composition for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome which composition includes a carrier vehicle and a vanilloid compound is provided. The carrier vehicle enables the vanilloid compound to be released in the lower GI tract. The vanilloid compound has the effect of desensitising nerves in the lower GI tract leading to the relief of symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome.

On décrit une composition pharmaceutique permettant de traiter le syndrome du côlon irritable, cette composition comprenant un véhicule et un composé de vanilloïde. Le véhicule permet au composé de vanilloïde d'être libéré dans le tractus gastro-intestinal inférieur. Le composé de vanilloïde a pour effet de désensibiliser les nerfs dans le tractus gastro-intestinal inférieur et de soulager ainsi les symptomes du syndrome du côlon irritable.
