RECOMMENDED FORMS Form 24 (ss. 21, 31, 34 and 142) ABSTRACT The Blueberry Basket Harvester is a free standing manually operated receptacle, castored up to and positioned around the base of the main stock of a mature blueberry bush. The invention is sufficiently wide to provide a catch-area for the fanned overhanging branches of the bush. Once in place, the Harvester operator manually threshes the blueberry branches with a short length of firm hose, causing the fruit to drop onto the fabric apron spanning the frame. Subsequent to threshing the bush, the Harvester is pulled back, a field container is placed beneath the rear of the Harvester, and the flap at the back of the apron is raised to enable the harvested fruit to be scooped out. The fruit is then cleaned and marketed. Powered blueberry harvesters are employed in the industry, but their cost and mechanical complexity limit their use to large harvesting operations. The Blueberry Basket Harvester is distinguished from its mechanized counterpart by its mechanical/maintenance simplicity, manoeuvrability and efficiency.
