Disclosed is a novel Lepidopteran- and Coleopteran-active .delta.-endotoxin polypeptide, from Bacillus thuringiensis; CryET70 and compositions comprising the polypeptide, peptide fragments thereof, and antibodies specific therefor. Also disclosed are vectors, transformed host cells, and transgenic plants that comprise nucleic and segments encoding the polypeptide. Also disclosed are methods of identifying related polypeptides and polynucleotides, methods of making and using transgenic cells comprising the novel sequences of the invention, as well as methods for controlling an insect population, such as the Western Corn Rootworm and Colorado potato beetle, and for conferring to a plant population resistance to the target insect species.
L'invention concerne un nouveau polypeptide d'endotoxine .delta. active contre les lépidoptères et les coléoptères, obtenu à partir de Bacillus thuringiensis ; Cry ET70 ainsi que des compositions comprenant ce polypeptide, des fragments peptidiques de ce dernier, et des anticorps spécifiques dirigés contre ce polypeptide. L'invention concerne également des vecteurs, des cellules hôtes transformées et des plantes transgéniques qui comprennent des segments d'acide nucléique codant pour ce polypeptide. L'invention concerne en outre des procédés permettant l'identification de polypeptides et de polynucléotides associés, des procédés de production et d'utilisation de cellules transgéniques comprenant ces nouvelles séquences, ainsi que des procédés permettant de limiter une population d'insectes tels que la chrysomèle des racines du maïs et le doryphore, et de conférer à une population végétale une résistance contre une espèce cible d'insectes.
