In a wireless communication system (10) a method for power control in a mobile unit (14, 16), wherein a variable size step is used to adjust the transmit power. The method compares a current power control signal to a previous one (52), and incrementally changing the step size for no change (64, 70). The adjusted step size is compared to maximum and minimum values (69, 74) to maintain a predetermined step size range. In one embodiment, a mobile unit (22) includes a memory storage device (32, 34) and a comparator (36) for storing the power control signals and comparing them.
La présente invention concerne un procédé permettant de commander la puissance dans une unité (14, 16) mobile d'un système (10) de communication radio, dans lequel on utilise un pas de taille variable pour régler la puissance d'émission. Ce procédé compare un signal de commande de puissance courant avec un signal précédent (52), puis il modifie par incrémentation la taille du pas de façon à ne rien changer (64, 70). Cette taille de pas réglée est comparée à des valeurs maximum et minimum (69, 74) de façon à maintenir un plage de taille de pas prédéterminée. Dans un mode de réalisation de l'invention, une unité (22) mobile comprend un dispositif (32, 34) de stockage en mémoire et un comparateur (36) destinés à stocker les signaux de commande de puissance et à les comparer.
