ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method for ion flotation in which the flotation reagent employed is a compound of general formula, wherein R1 is a C10-C18 alkyl group, Y is O, S, NH, (CH2)n or (CHR)n where R is a lower alkyl group and n is 1 to 6. X is a halogen atom, and P and Q are the same or different groups and each is hydrogen or a lower alkyl, lower alkenyl, aryl or substituted aryl group. The method is especially suited for the extraction of gold using ion flotation.
