A communications network including nodes which permit networks to be tunnelled across intermediate networks. The present invention has application, in particular, to SDH networks, SONET and OTN. The content of entities for transportation across an existing network are mapped into a series of subframes and are virtually concatenated across the network. Each subframe is assigned a sequence indicator, which allows the original entity to be assembled at a remote node.

L'invention se rapporte à un réseau de communications comportant des noeuds qui permettent la tunnellisation entre des réseaux par le biais de réseaux intermédiaires. La présente invention concerne particulièrement les réseaux à hiérarchie numérique synchrone (SDH), les réseaux optiques synchrones (SONET) et le réseau de transport optique (OTN). Les contenus d'entités devant être transportés à travers un réseau existant sont mis en correspondance avec une série de sous-trames et sont concaténés virtuellement à travers le réseau. Chaque sous-trame est associée à un indicateur de séquence qui permet à l'entité d'origine d'être assemblée au niveau d'un noeud éloigné.
