It is intended to provide novel fluorescent proteins originating in an organism other than Aequorea coerulescens. Namely, a fluorescent protein originating in Fungia sp. which has the following characteristics: (1) showing a maximum excitation wavelength of 455 nm and a maximum fluorescent wavelength of 488 nm; (2) showing a molar absorptivity at 455 nm of from 38700 or 27700; (3) showing a quantum yield of 0.85 or 0.81; and (4) showing a stable pH sensitivity of the fluorescent characteristics at pH 5 to 9. Another fluorescent protein originating in Fungia sp. which has the following characteristics: (1) showing a maximum excitation wavelength of 548 nm and a maximum fluorescent wavelength of 561 nm; (2) showing a molar absorptivity at 548 nm of from 75900 or 51000; (3) showing a quantum yield of 0.44 or 0.50; (4) showing a pH sensitivity of the fluorescent characteristics of pKa<5Ø

Cette invention, qui a trait à de nouvelles protéines fluorescentes issues d'un organisme autre que Aequorea coerulescens, concerne, notamment, une protéine fluorescente issue de fungia species présentant les caractéristiques suivantes : (1), longueur d'onde d'excitation maximale de 455 nm et longueur d'onde de fluorescence maximale de 488 nm, (2), capacité d'absorption molaire à 455 nm à partir de 38 700 ou de 27 700, rendement quantique de 0,85 ou de 0,81 et sensibilité stable au pH de ses caractéristiques de fluorescence à un pH s'échelonnant de 5 à 9. L'invention porte également sur une autre protéine fluorescente issue de fungia species dont les caractéristiques sont les suivantes : longueur d'onde d'excitation maximale de 548 nm et longueur d'onde de fluorescence maximale de 561 nm, (2), capacité d'absorption molaire à 548 nm à partir de 75 900 ou de 51 000, rendement quantique de 0,44 ou de 0,50 et sensibilité au pH de ses caractéristiques de fluorescence de pKa inférieur à 5,0.
