METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR AERATING SLURRY IN A FROTH FLOTATION MACHINE ABSTRACT An apparatus and method for sparging air bubbles into a stream of slurry flowing into a froth flotation column in a froth flotation concentration system are disclosed. The invention provides an external contactor, a throttle valve for controlling the process pressure within the contactor and a system for injecting a mixture of air-and water into the contactor under pressure. Apparatus according to the invention allows the size of bubbles introduced into the slurry be controlled by varying the process pressure and by varying the proportion of water in the air/water mixture which is injected into the contactor. Introducing bubbles of controlled sizes yields consequential improvements in efficiency. All wetted parts of the contactor are lined with abrasion resistant materials to reduce wear. The method and apparatus of the invention have application in mineral ore concentration, water/oil separation, de-inking and sewage treatment.
