Described herein is an apparatus comprising an electrochemical cell that employs a capacitive counter electrode (100) and a faradaic working electrode (101). The capacitive counter electrode reduces the amount of redox products generated at the counter electrode while enabling the working electrode to generate redox products. The electrochemical cell is useful for controlling the redox products generated and/or the timing of the redox product generation. The electrochemical cell is useful in assay methods, including those using electrochemiluminescence. The electrochemical cell can be combined with additional hardware to form instrumentation for assay methods.
L'appareil selon l'invention comporte une cellule électrochimique faisant appel à une contre-électrode capacitive (100) et à une électrode de travail faradique (101). La contre-électrode capacitive réduit la quantité de produits redox générés au niveau de la contre-électrode tout en permettant à l'électrode de travail de générer des produits redox. La cellule électrochimique est utile pour réguler la quantité de produits redox générés et/ou la chronologie de génération des produits redox. La cellule électrochimique est utile dans les procédés de dosage, notamment ceux utilisant l'électrochimioluminescence. La cellule électrochimique peut être combinée à du matériel supplémentaire pour former une instrumentation destinée à des procédés de dosage.
